Parkinson’s UK is the leading charitable funder of Parkinson’s research in the UK and is the largest patient-led organisation dedicated to Parkinson’s disease in Europe. It supports a broad range of research including clinical, social and basic science. Through its research strategy, Parkinson’s UK has driven the Parkinson’s research agenda within the UK and it works closely with Governmental and non-Governmental bodies to ensure that Parkinson’s research retains a high priority. Parkinson’s UK is a member of the UK Association of Medical Research Charities which governs good practice within the research charity sector. The charity also has close links with external Parkinson’s research organisations including the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in the USA. They are leaders in the field of involving stakeholders in research. To develop truly transformational new treatments, they involve people affected by Parkinson’s at every stage, from setting priorities for research to making decisions about the research projects they fund.
