Aiden Doherty

Aiden is an Associate Professor and Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. His research group develops reproducible methods to analyse wearable sensor data in very large health studies to better understand the causes and consequences of disease. For example, they have developed methods to objectively measure physical activity in UK Biobank that are now actively used by researchers worldwide to demonstrate new associations with cardiovascular disease, depression, mood disorders, and others.

Reason for helping with IDEA-FAST

Wearable sensors offer the potential to transform our ability to evaluate the impact of healthcare treatments on important aspects of everyday living. However, we need much larger and more robust studies to determine whether this really is the case or not. Aiden is therefore really excited to learn from, and contribute to, IDEA-FAST.
